In the opening game of the 2023 IPL, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings will square off in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium. The lavish cricket league, started by BCCI 16 years ago, will feature ten sides. The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) has modified the IPL 2023 rules and format, so things are changed for 2023.
First off, for the 16th IPL season, BCCI has reinstated the home-and-away format for league contests. The two groups have been split into two groups of five each. In the league stage, each squad will compete in 14 games, including seven at home and seven away. In addition, the IPL will take place over 12 locations for 52 days.

Impact Player Rules for IPL 2023
Indian Premier League 2023 will now have a new “Impact Player” rules introduced by BCCI. Anytime during the game, any one of the four substitutes may take the position of one of each team’s on-field players. However, the replaced player is no longer able to compete in the game—not even as a substitute. Furthermore, the impact player can only be an Indian if a team names four foreign players in their starting eleven.
The Impact Player idea was first used in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) this year, and the BCCI was pleased with the results of the test. The BCCI took influence for this from sports like football and a few others where substitutes take an active part in play.
The idea is to give each team’s substitute member more opportunities to participate in a game. This would give the game a new tactical/strategic component. In a number of team sports, including football, rugby, basketball, and baseball, teams can replace players for tactical reasons. The BCCI had stated that the substitute was permitted to act or take part just like any other regular player.
IPL Wide Ball Review for 2023
Using the Decision Review System, players can contest the umpire’s wide and no-ball decisions. (DRS). The new phrase was officially introduced and put into use for the first time during the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2023 season. Beginning on March 31, 2023, the IPL will put the rule into effect in its upcoming matches. Harmanpreet Kaur, the captain of the Mumbai Indians women, was the first player to successfully contest the umpire’s wide decision.
IPL 2023 Locations
Each team has a home venue now that the BCCI has changed the league-stage match format to home-and-away matches. As a result, there will be 14 league-stage games for each team, including seven at home and seven away. The semifinals will be determined by the best four teams in the IPL point’s standings.
After a toss, the captain has the following options for his starting lineup:
The skipper must provide the playing 11 with sheets prior to the toss, according to what has occurred in the IPL thus far. That is, the skipper could not alter his starting 11 after winning or losing the toss, but that will no longer be the case.
After the toss, the captain will now announce his playing 11; therefore, if the captain wishes to divide his team according to whether they will bat first or bowl first, he may do so.

The skipper would carry a sheet with the names of 13 players to the toss, and based on the outcome, he would select his playing 11.
If the wicketkeeper makes an unfair action this time. That is, if it is shaken by accident, a dead ball will be declared and the opposing team will also receive a penalty of 5 runs. If a fielder does this, a punishment of 5 runs and a dead ball will be called.
